About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Counsel IonQ's product and research teams across the full product lifecycle
- Provide legal guidance on strategic transactions and partnerships
- Draft, negotiate, and execute strategic partnerships, licensing, joint development, and supply and manufacturing arrangements
- Shape playbooks, processes, and infrastructure for a scalable product legal function
- Collaborate with product, research, engineering, finance, privacy, compliance, trade, outside counsel, and other stakeholders
- Translate complex legal concepts into actionable guidance for non-lawyers
- Translate product, engineering, and business strategy into terms that sharpen legal advice and priorities
- Report to the Head of Product Legal
Requirements
What you’ll need- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar, or eligibility for in-house/registered counsel status in the state of employment
- 8+ years of relevant experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house legal department
- Substantial experience advising on strategic partnerships for the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of technology products, in the US and abroad
- Proven track record of drafting, negotiating, and executing complex technology transactions with direct impact on business or product strategy
- Versatility across product and transactional matters
- Judgment to advise confidently amid ambiguity and willingness to work on novel legal questions
- Ability to leverage existing AI tools and help build superior ones
- U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or granted asylum, due to export control laws and regulations
