Key responsibilities & impact- Develop concept designs with supporting analysis, manufacturing awareness, and cost considerations
- Perform detailed design work and process engineering changes
- Own concept and detailed design of new products and assembly tooling
- Produce detailed designs and layouts meeting customer requirements and specifications
- Support estimates for product development proposals
- Apply Design for Six Sigma principles and data-based analysis
- Perform design, stress, and performance calculations using 3D CAD, finite element, and traditional analysis methods
- Work to procedures and design standards and help develop best practices
- Complete and check drawing packs, prototype and production details, assembly drawings, tolerance analyses, and supporting documentation
- Act as project leader when appropriate
- Liaise with production engineering and production planning to optimize designs for production
- Support engineering change requests and process deviations or waivers
- Maintain accurate and complete project database entries
- Deliver project schedules and milestones within a multi-project team environment
- Undertake wider project engineering responsibilities when required
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 10 years’ experience of CAD, ideally in the field of precision components
- Understanding of configuration control
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Knowledge of machining and other manufacturing techniques
- High level of attention to detail
- Ability to work in a flexible environment and stretch beyond the comfort zone
- Some understanding of generic engineering and/or thermodynamic principles and the effect of material selection
- Proficient use of both 2D and 3D CAD
- Degree qualification is ideal but not essential; candidates with the right skills, experience, and motivation can succeed without it
- Experience of small component design, design for manufacture principles, and fine tolerance components is desirable
- Knowledge of Six Sigma and lean would be an advantage
- Change-oriented, innovative, customer-aware, and results-focused
- Experience with Siemens NX 2212 and TeamCenter 13.2
- Knowledge of ASME Y14.1 design standards
