About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and build backend services, APIs, and data models supporting accounting workflows across Ramp's products
- Make financial data accurate, traceable, and resilient through coding, reconciliation, and synchronization
- Improve reliability and visibility of workflows spanning Ramp and customers' accounting systems
- Handle workflow failures and changes across integrated systems
- Partner with product and engineering teammates to translate finance-team needs into technical designs
- Own substantial projects from design and implementation through launch, monitoring, and iteration
- Conduct design reviews and code reviews
- Mentor engineers and raise the engineering bar
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems, including APIs, data models, and asynchronous workflows
- Strong system design judgment, especially around data correctness, reliability, and keeping complex systems understandable
- Track record of independently owning complex projects and shipping high-quality software
- Ability to investigate problems across services and data flows and turn findings into durable improvements
- Clear communication and a collaborative approach to technical decisions and feedback
- Nice to have: experience with accounting, payments, spend management, or other financial data products
- Nice to have: familiarity with coding, reconciliation, or general ledger concepts
- Nice to have: experience building integrations or data workflows that keep information consistent across systems
