Key responsibilities & impact- Act as an enterprise AI thought leader and strategic advisor
- Shape the organization’s use of generative AI, LLMs, and agentic workflows
- Influence business, data, and technology executives on enterprise-wide AI investment and strategy
- Lead AI/Data Scientists and engineers building scalable LLM applications, RAG pipelines, and autonomous agent systems
- Guide solutions from ideation through performant production deployment
- Optimize prompt engineering, context management, model evaluation, and inference cost-efficiency
- Create modular, reusable horizontal AI capabilities and services across business units
- Partner with Enterprise Architecture and IT on AI infrastructure, tooling pipelines, and cloud/on-premise deployment standards
- Ensure AI solutions comply with AI safety guidelines, model risk management, data governance, and regulations
- Secure resources including LLM API integrations, third-party tools, specialized hardware, and talent
- Recruit, mentor, coach, and manage performance for a world-class AI team
- Identify, measure, monitor, and control AI operational risks such as hallucinations, data leakage, security vulnerabilities, and autonomous agent drift
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of progressive experience in machine learning, advanced data science, and AI development, with recent emphasis on deploying Generative AI, LLMs, or agentic systems to production, OR an Advanced Degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or a quantitative STEM field with 6+ years of relevant experience
- 3+ years of direct people leadership experience building, managing, and inspiring high-performing technical teams
- Proven track record of architecting and delivering scalable, high-performance horizontal AI platforms or reusable capabilities
- Demonstrated ability to pivot technical strategies and teams in response to rapid AI ecosystem changes
- Deep technical background in LangChain, LlamaIndex, vector databases, fine-tuning, RAG architectures, prompt engineering patterns, and multi-agent orchestration
- Understanding of AI governance, guardrails, prompt injection defense, alignment, model risk policies, and compliance expectations
- Exceptional executive communication skills and ability to translate complex AI architectures, ROI metrics, and technical roadmaps for senior executives and non-technical stakeholders
- Must not require immigration support now or in the future; USAA does not provide visa sponsorship
