About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the design and development of mechanical components and systems, focusing on metallurgical properties and powder metallurgy techniques
- Define design intent and establish specifications
- Engage in R&D, process development and qualification, production implementation, component substantiation, and supplier development and oversight
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on project goals, timelines, and deliverables
- Conduct material selection, failure analysis, and reliability assessments
- Mentor and guide junior engineers in design best practices and metallurgical principles
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in metallurgy and design methodologies
Requirements
What you’ll need- PhD in Materials Science, related field, or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering, with a strong focus on metallurgy and powder metallurgy
- Strong knowledge of material properties, manufacturing processes, and design tools
- Proven experience leading design projects from concept to production
- Proven experience managing long-term projects and developing supplier relationships is preferred
- Excellent problem-solving skills related to material properties, processing, and performance
- Strong communication skills, including presenting technical concepts and complex ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders and leadership
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams
- Must be a U.S. Person: a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status, or have the ability to obtain an export authorization
