Key responsibilities & impact- Define the technical direction for Personalization, including behavioral and product signals, ranked recommendations, and complete-look outfits
- Build alignment across product, data science, and platform teams
- Lead and develop a team of engineers into technical leaders
- Own delivery, reliability, and team health for the Personalization Engine
- Operate a high-scale personalization platform supporting Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack digital experiences
- Raise standards for model quality, data quality, and observability
- Operate as a player-coach through architecture, code reviews, and incident response
- Establish AI-native planning, building, and shipping practices
- Set priorities, commit to dates, and deliver consistently
- Represent the team to business and senior leadership
- Translate complex model and platform work into clear business value
- Advocate for the team and develop a vision for expanding its scope and projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of relevant work experience in software or machine learning engineering
- 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams, or strong tech-lead experience ready to step into people management
- Experience building and operating production ML or recommendation systems at scale
- Experience with training pipelines, low-latency model serving, cloud infrastructure, and Kubernetes-based platforms
- Track record of improving reliability, including SLOs, on-call health, incident response, and post-incident learning
- Demonstrated agile delivery discipline
- Experience influencing without authority and communicating with candor
- BA/BS in Computer Science or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Hands-on experience with Vertex AI or comparable managed ML training platforms
- Experience leading an end-to-end migration, such as moving ML serving workloads between cloud and in-house platforms
- Background in retail, e-commerce, or marketing technology
- Experience applying generative AI and agentic tooling to engineering workflows or customer experiences
- Familiarity with sequential or transformer-based recommendation approaches
- Must be available to work in the office at Nordstrom corporate headquarters a minimum of 4 days/week
