About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead a team responsible for accurate accounting and financial reporting of Financial Services results
- Support training, development, and evaluation of associates
- Present monthly, quarterly, and annual analyses of Financial Services results to Controllers leadership
- Explain key drivers of periodic changes and differences from expectations
- Develop subject matter expertise in technical accounting for auto lending
- Consult with Line of Business, Financial Planning, Policy, and other internal partners on accounting treatment and financial reporting
- Partner with the Financial Services agile team on new business initiatives, projects, and acquisitions
- Oversee journal entry and reconciliation processes and review them when necessary
- Review and maintain supporting documentation for SEC filings and regulatory disclosures
- Provide technical support on accounting disclosure issues and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and regulatory requirements
- Lead responses to internal audit reviews, regulatory exams, and SOX compliance
- Implement risk management for processes, procedures, and standards
- Identify and drive opportunities to centralize, eliminate, automate, or outsource activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree or military experience
- At least 7 years of experience in accounting, external reporting, audit, finance, or a combination
- At least 2 years of experience managing monthly financial close processes
- At least 3 years of experience in people management
- Must be able to work at the designated McLean office under Capital One's hybrid policy
- Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization or provide immigration-related support
- Preferred: Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
- Preferred: At least 9 years of experience in accounting, audit, finance, or a combination
- Preferred: At least 5 years of experience in people management
- Preferred: At least 5 years of experience with financial institutions
