Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build, and deploy features and services using object-oriented principles and modern PHP practices
- Improve PHP patterns, tooling, and workflows to enhance delivery speed, maintainability, and security
- Prototype and implement AI uses in code generation, refactoring, testing, code review, and root-cause analysis
- Evaluate AI-assisted tools and establish responsible-use guidelines with human review, testing, and security standards
- Define software requirements with leadership and product partners
- Lead operational and technical projects from scoping and estimation through delivery
- Make architecture decisions and design reusable, testable, scalable components
- Diagnose and resolve complex bugs and performance issues using logs, metrics, and traces
- Drive automated unit and integration testing and improve code coverage
- Conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, and provide constructive feedback
- Apply secure coding practices and address web and application security risks
- Maintain technical documentation using AI tools where helpful
- Share knowledge through demos, lunch-and-learns, and written guides
Requirements
What you’ll need- 6+ years of professional software development experience in an object-oriented language, with deep PHP expertise
- Strong command of OOP principles, design patterns, and clean code practices
- Track record of improving how a team builds software
- Hands-on experience using AI tools for coding, debugging, testing, or documentation
- Judgment about responsible use and limitations of AI output
- Experience working in a Linux-based development environment
- Proficiency with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS3
- Experience with relational databases and SQL/MySQL
- Working knowledge of system architecture, debugging strategies, and observability (logs, metrics, tracing)
- Commitment to code quality, testing, and maintainable design
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical partners
- Experience building AI-powered features or integrating LLM APIs into PHP applications (nice to have)
- Experience creating repeatable AI workflows for a team (nice to have)
- Experience with Docker or containerized environments (nice to have)
- Exposure to AWS or other cloud platforms (nice to have)
- Experience in healthcare or other regulated software environments (nice to have)
