About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Research and prepare documentation for complex business transactions and provide appropriate accounting guidance
- Evaluate and assist in implementing new or revised rules of the FASB, AICPA, SEC, and other agencies
- Integrate newly promulgated accounting standards into accounting policies and processes
- Assist with response letters and working groups associated with FASB and SEC exposure drafts affecting NiSource or the public utility industry
- Prepare corporate accounting policies and procedures
- Prepare technical accounting memos addressing complex accounting issues, non-recurring transactions, and new accounting guidance
- Design workflows supporting compliance with GAAP and SEC disclosure requirements
- Monitor emerging accounting and reporting guidance and trends, review potential impacts, and present findings to business partners
- Identify emerging business issues affecting the company and energy industry and provide accounting recommendations
- Consult on the economic analysis of business opportunities and proposals
- Interface with external auditors on complex accounting issues
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related discipline
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience working in Accounting or another related business field
- Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
- Ability to coordinate projects and manage multiple priorities
- Willingness to take on responsibility and challenging work assignments
- Proficiency in coordinating activities across functions
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
- Financial systems experience
- Strong technical accounting skills
- Solid understanding of current generally accepted accounting principles and SEC reporting requirements
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) upon hire
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must not require employer sponsorship now or in the future
- May be required to support emergency response efforts outside normal hours or assist with tasks outside typical responsibilities
