Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, grow, and enable a team of forward-deployed engineers
- Hire engineers and support their performance, career development, and coaching
- Serve as the main engineering lead, with a career option to progress to CTO

- Enable team members to work across concept and design, development, QA, deployment, and production monitoring
- Establish engineering standards and quality gates
- Improve AI-assisted development through context engineering, model selection, evaluation, tracing, and observability practices
- Run architectural discussions, code reviews, and retrospectives
- Build a culture of ownership, constructive challenge, and continuous learning
- Advise the Chief Product Officer and business leadership on technology strategy, build-vs-buy decisions, and team setup
Requirements
What you’ll need- Proven people leadership experience, including leading an engineering team, ideally 3+ engineers
- Experience hiring, conducting performance evaluations, supporting career development and coaching
- An impactful technical contribution and continued enjoyment of writing code
- Deep hands-on experience across frontend, backend, data, and infrastructure/cloud
- Track record of architecting and shipping production-grade software
- Preferably experience with AI components including LLMs, embeddings, RAG pipelines, autonomous agents, PyTorch, or TensorFlow
- Strong product sense and ownership of a feature or product area end-to-end
- Experience developing AI agents and integrating them into business workflows
- Knowledge of current AI tools, models, and trends in AI-assisted software engineering
- Excellent context engineering, including prompting
- Experience selecting models and using Claude Code or Cursor
- Ability to roll AI-assisted engineering practices out across a team
- Ability to design evaluation sets and use LLM-as-judge or ground-truth data
- Experience with tracing and observability tooling to identify and fix regressions
- Ability to drive a team independently from idea to finished product
- Ability to involve, align with, or escalate to stakeholders appropriately
- Ability to challenge ideas and drive constructive discussions with users, engineers, product, and business leadership
- Ability to create psychological safety and give and receive honest feedback
- Residence within ±3 hours of Central European Time
- Full professional proficiency in English at C2 level
- Full professional proficiency in German at C1 level
- Bonus: Experience building or scaling an engineering team in a startup or scale-up
- Bonus: Experience integrating AI into SaaS business workflows, ideally client-facing or forward-deployed
- Bonus: Familiarity with AI tooling such as agents, memory systems, vector databases, and orchestration frameworks
