Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the technical direction of secure, resilient lending platforms and services
- Drive strategic initiatives transforming the Commercial Lending user experience
- Provide hands-on technical leadership for feasibility, engineering direction, quality, technical risk, dependencies, operational readiness and technical delivery
- Own the end-to-end technical direction and evolution of complex systems
- Make trade-offs across scalability, reliability, security, cost and maintainability
- Design and build secure, resilient APIs, microservices, backend components and data-access layers at scale
- Lead technical feasibility, solution design, engineering quality, dependency management, operational readiness and delivery
- Establish cloud delivery, CI/CD strategies, engineering standards and controls
- Define automated testing strategies across unit, integration, contract, performance, resilience and security testing
- Use observability, service-level objectives and operational data to improve system performance, reliability and customer outcomes
- Embed security and risk management across architecture, development and operations
- Mentor engineers, facilitate design reviews and create reusable engineering practices across squads
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experienced, hands-on engineering leader
- Backend engineering using C# or a comparable language
- Strong foundations in computer science and distributed systems
- Experience with cloud-native architecture and development on AWS
- Experience with resilience, security, scalability and cost optimisation
- Experience with event-driven and microservices architectures
- Experience with Kafka, Kinesis, Amazon SNS, Amazon SQS or EventBridge
- RESTful API design
- Domain modelling and service boundaries
- Relational and NoSQL data platforms
- Evolutionary architecture
- CI/CD architecture using GitHub Actions, Buildkite or Octopus
- Comprehensive automated testing experience
- Observability and SRE practices using metrics, logs, traces and service-level objectives
- Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk or CloudWatch
- Secure engineering and DevSecOps, including threat modelling, secure-by-design controls and automated security assurance
- Responsible use of AI coding assistants and agentic engineering workflows
- Experience in banking, commercial lending or another regulated environment would be advantageous
