About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the technical design and delivery of backend and integration services
  • Design, build and operate Java microservices and REST APIs on AWS and Amazon EKS
  • Shape event-driven solutions integrating Customer Lifecycle Management capabilities with bank channels
  • Apply full-cycle engineering practices across design, build, challenge and run
  • Embed DevSecOps, automated testing, observability and reliable CI/CD practices
  • Provide technical direction, unblock delivery and support sound engineering decisions
  • Mentor software and senior software engineers
  • Collaborate with product, business and technology stakeholders to translate complex needs into practical solutions
  • Build an in-house digital identity-refresh solution supporting customers, branches and back-office teams
  • Guide engineers across Australia and India and align priorities across the squad

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong hands-on Java software engineering and system design experience
  • Demonstrated experience designing and operating microservices and REST APIs in production
  • Practical AWS and Amazon EKS experience, including containerised workloads
  • Experience with CI/CD and Git-based development, ideally using GitHub Actions
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps, automated testing, code review and observable production systems
  • Experience leading technical activities, mentoring engineers and influencing stakeholders
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools and practices
  • Exposure to Kafka, event-driven architecture, NoSQL databases or financial services environments would be valuable
  • Ability to guide colleagues across Australia and India
  • Backend, integration and operational engineering expertise
