About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Gather and analyze billing and invoicing requirements across electric, gas, and/or water utilities, customer classes, and service territories
- Support functional design and configuration of SAP IS-U Billing and Invoicing solutions
- Configure and support periodic and non-periodic billing, estimates, rebilling, reversals, adjustments, budget billing, bill simulation, and exception resolution
- Configure and validate invoicing, billing document creation, payment handoffs, bill-output interfaces, and downstream financial postings with FI-CA and related systems
- Analyze billing exceptions and processing results to identify root causes
- Prepare functional designs, configuration documentation, test scenarios, process flows, and project deliverables
- Execute unit and integration testing and support user acceptance testing, regression testing, parallel billing, and defect resolution
- Coordinate end-to-end process impacts across Device Management, Energy Data Management, FI-CA, Customer Service, Retail Choice, bill print, reporting, and technical integration teams
- Support complex time-of-use, interval-based, consumption-based, and other billing scenarios
- Support billing-cycle readiness, reconciliation, cutover, production incidents, operational procedures, and post-go-live stabilization
- Collaborate with client stakeholders, business users, technical teams, and project leadership
- Provide knowledge transfer and functional guidance to client teams and junior project team members
- Travel regularly as needed to meet client requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- A bachelor’s degree
- Typically, no less than 3 to 4 years of SAP IS-U or SAP Utilities experience, including at least 3 years of hands-on experience with SAP IS-U Billing and Invoicing
- Hands-on experience delivering functional requirements, configuration or solution design, testing, and production support in a utility environment
- Experience configuring SAP IS-U billing schemas, rates, facts, operands, billing master data, billing orders, invoicing, and billing-cycle processes
- Experience supporting periodic and non-periodic billing, rebilling, reversals, adjustments, billing exceptions, and bill simulation
- Understanding of meter-to-cash processes and dependencies among Billing, Device Management, Energy Data Management, FI-CA, Customer Service, and connected systems
- Experience preparing functional specifications, configuration documentation, test scenarios, process flows, and other project documentation
- Experience executing unit and integration testing and supporting user acceptance testing, regression testing, defect resolution, cutover, and production stabilization
- Experience working with business users, technical teams, and project stakeholders to resolve functional and cross-workstream issues
- Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills
- Flexibility and willingness to travel to meet client needs; travel estimated at 40–60%
- Prior consulting experience (ideally)
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA Utilities (ideally)
- Experience supporting high-volume utility billing operations or large-scale meter-to-cash transformations (ideally)
- Experience with deregulated or competitive utility markets, interval usage, complex tariffs, multi-service utilities, or time-of-use billing (ideally)
- Experience with bill-print, e-billing, payment, or other customer communication integrations (ideally)
- Knowledge of utility regulatory requirements and market operations (ideally)
- Experience supporting parallel billing, billing-cycle reconciliation, operational readiness, or post-go-live production support (ideally)
