About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Operate and maintain mission-critical cooling systems supporting data center environments
- Serve as the site subject matter expert for air-cooled chillers, CDUs, direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems, RDHx, CRAH and in-row cooling systems, pumping and distribution systems, VFDs, and BAS/BMS
- Perform complex diagnostics and troubleshooting of cooling system failures and performance issues
- Analyze temperature, pressure, flow, and operational trends to identify developing problems
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective action development following cooling events
- Support emergency response and recovery during critical equipment failures
- Optimize cooling system performance, efficiency, and reliability
- Develop and improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Evaluate cooling capacity requirements for high-density AI and HPC deployments
- Support commissioning and validation of new cooling infrastructure
- Mentor and provide technical support to Data Center Operators and Facilities personnel
- Assist in developing operating procedures, maintenance standards, and troubleshooting guides
- Support training and qualification programs for advanced cooling technologies
- Partner with engineering teams, contractors, and OEM vendors during upgrades and maintenance activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of hands-on experience with mechanical cooling systems
- 3+ years operating and maintaining air-cooled chiller systems
- Experience troubleshooting refrigeration and thermal management equipment
- Experience using BAS/BMS platforms for monitoring and diagnostics
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and controls documentation
- Working knowledge of air-cooled chiller operation and maintenance
- Working knowledge of refrigeration cycle fundamentals
- Working knowledge of glycol cooling systems
- Working knowledge of pump operation and hydraulics
- Working knowledge of heat exchanger performance
- Working knowledge of cooling distribution systems
- Working knowledge of high-density rack cooling technologies
- Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS / DCIM)
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Knowledge of trend analysis and diagnostics
- Knowledge of alarm management and response
- Knowledge of Sequence of Operations review and validation
- Knowledge of direct-to-chip liquid cooling
- Knowledge of Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs)
- Knowledge of Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx)
- Knowledge of CRAH systems
- Knowledge of high-performance computing (HPC) thermal management
- Knowledge of AI data center cooling infrastructure
- Preferred: Data center, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or other mission-critical facility experience
- Preferred: EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
- Preferred: HVAC Journeyman or equivalent mechanical certification
- Preferred: Experience supporting AI or liquid-cooled computing environments
- Preferred: Experience with Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls, Trane, or Carrier cooling systems
