About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Supervise technical staff and analytical activities within laboratory sections during the assigned shift
- Plan, assign, review, and evaluate assigned staff's work
- Ensure accurate and reliable test results, quality testing, operational efficiency, and policy adherence
- Supervise and evaluate technical performance of assigned staff
- Recommend changes in procedures and techniques
- Maintain documentation, records, quality assurance records, and quality control records required by regulatory agencies
- Resolve technical, operational, system, and related issues
- Collaborate with laboratory supervisors and administration to establish and implement goals and objectives
- Function as Section Head in the Section Head's absence
- Communicate with administrative, medical, nursing, and other staff to coordinate services
- Perform laboratory and special procedures as required
- Maintain knowledge of technical advances in medical technology and management
- Evaluate safety precautions and infection control measures
- Monitor equipment performance and preventive maintenance
- Maintain operating-supply inventory and communicate with vendors
- Prepare reports and records
- Evaluate operations, quality assurance, quality control, supplies inventory, and individual performance
- Interview, hire, train, assign, direct, appraise, reward, and discipline employees
- Assist Lab Section Head with laboratory section operating budgets
- Perform other duties as assigned and adapt to changing department demands
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in science field required
- Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory sciences preferred
- MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification
- Must be certified in all areas of the Lab
- SBB preferred for Lab Supervisor - Transfusion Services
- Three years clinical laboratory experience
- One year experience as lead, supervisor, or charge role position
- Intermediate computer skills
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization
- Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions
- Excellent communication skills
- National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) program
- Ability to perform laboratory and special procedures and maintain proficiency in all procedures within the designated section
- Knowledge of technical advances in medical technology and management
- Ability to implement safety precautions and infection control measures
- Ability to monitor equipment performance and preventive maintenance schedules
- Ability to perform administrative and clerical functions
- Ability to maintain inventory and prepare reports and records
- Ability to interview, hire, train, direct, and evaluate employees
