About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Input and update insurance information in appropriate systems
- Verify eligibility of all insurance coverage online or by phone
- Identify primary and secondary insurance and enter information in correct COB order
- Obtain claim numbers and verify claims for Workers' Compensation and Auto Insurance
- Identify pre-authorization requirements and determine insurance eligibility using multiple online systems
- Obtain and document pre-authorization for scheduled patients
- Obtain pre-authorization guidelines for emergent patients and communicate them to Utilization Management
- Follow up on verification issues and communicate information to appropriate departments
- Keep current on third-party billing requirements
- Perform insurance verification and obtain pre- and retro-certification information for inpatient activity
- Communicate information to the Utilization Management team
- Refer patients to Financial Counselors for financial assistance or payment arrangements when appropriate
- Handle confidential medical information
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must reside in Michigan
- 2 Year / Associate Degree or equivalent experience
- 1.5 years of related experience in healthcare and third party required
- Medical experience is preferred
- Well versed in medical terminology is highly preferred
- Advanced keyboard, mouse, computer and Microsoft Office skills
- Must have knowledge and ability to learn, access and utilize 10+ listed computer programs within 90 days of hire
- Must possess exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, doctors' offices, technicians, hospital departments, and insurance companies
- Ability to create accurate documentation
- Ability to perform online insurance verification through the Internet
- Must demonstrate ability to adapt to change and keep up with continued advanced education requirements
- Must be vaccinated or have lab-confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella, or meet applicable requirements
- Must receive an annual flu vaccine during flu season or have an approved medical or religious exemption
