About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead, hire, and grow a team of full-stack engineers through 1:1s, clear expectations, coaching, and performance management
  • Own end-to-end delivery using fast experimentation, early user releases, measurement, and iteration while maintaining reliability
  • Partner with Product and Design as co-owners of the Compose roadmap
  • Use customer feedback and usage data to prioritize, reduce, or expand product work
  • Raise engineering standards across testing, observability, and AI-assisted development
  • Model Mural’s remote-first, work-in-public culture at a sustainable pace
  • Take Mural’s AI-native product from early access to a reliable, high-quality product customers use daily
  • Review pull requests, set technical standards, and participate in code and architecture decisions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2+ years managing software engineers directly, including hiring, coaching, and performance management
  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer building and operating production applications
  • Hands-on technical work within the last 3–4 years
  • Solid technical foundation for architecture discussions and code reviews
  • Bias for experimentation and data-driven decision-making
  • People-first leadership approach, empathy, and ability to build psychological safety
  • Excellent communication skills for explaining technical tradeoffs
  • Experience leading a team that shipped LLM-powered features to production, including evaluation, quality monitoring, and cost management
  • Experience building AI agents, retrieval systems, or knowledge graphs, or familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP)
  • Experience with Azure OpenAI, React, Node, and MongoDB
  • Legally authorized to work in the country of residence
  • Must not require employer sponsorship in the working location
