Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and grow the Billing engineering team
- Own the roadmap for billing systems from usage metering through invoicing, reconciliation, and financial reporting
- Drive billing correctness and reliability through monitoring, reconciliation, and testing
- Partner with Finance, Product, and Customer Experience to align the roadmap with pricing, reporting, and customer needs
- Hire and develop engineers to support planned team growth
- Make architectural decisions balancing long-term billing platform investment against near-term pricing launches and fixes
- Build performance management and career development practices for a team including senior individual contributors
- Lead systems that capture usage, process data pipelines, integrate with third-party billing platforms, and produce accurate invoices
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong people leadership
- Hands-on enough to review code, prototype, and contribute directly when helpful
- Comfort operating in ambiguity, with adaptability and a growth mindset
- Proven experience building and scaling teams, ideally growing a group from a handful of engineers into a larger organization
- Experience managing engineers, including senior and staff engineers; hiring and performance management
- Hands-on experience with usage-based billing, payments, or other revenue-critical systems
- Experience with third-party billing platforms such as Orb, Metronome, or Stripe, or similar
- Ability to partner closely with Finance, Product, and Customer Experience
- Strong business instincts connecting engineering investment to billing accuracy, revenue, and customer trust
- Experience operating in a fast-paced environment
- Nice to have: experience leading a billing platform migration or pricing model change
- Nice to have: familiarity with financial reconciliation and reporting processes
- Nice to have: background in distributed systems or event-driven architectures
- Nice to have: experience building for developer platforms, cloud infrastructure, or DevTools
