About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Complete pre-registration and full registration for families as needed
- Ensure eligibility information is accurate
- Obtain patient/family consents and mandatory forms; enter them into Epic
- Query MyChart and Care Everywhere and use EpicCare Link as appropriate
- Verify and assist with referrals for visits and same-day services
- Inform families and collect payments including estimates, copays, outstanding balances, and self-pay amounts
- Copy insurance cards as appropriate
- Provide intake forms and instructions; print clinical labels and scanning documents
- Provide ID bands to patients as appropriate
- Inform patients and families of wait times or service delays
- Schedule new, return, same-day, ancillary, and other appointments
- Enter patient information in additional electronic systems as required
- Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Complete check-out procedures and prepare forms for distribution
- Coordinate activities with Patient Service Representative staff and department team members
- Enter, release, and maintain outpatient lab orders and contact referring providers when appropriate
- Check in medical imaging patients, process orders, schedule appointments, and collect payment estimates
- Process outpatient surgery admissions and collect copayments or deductibles
- Answer department backline and patient phone lines
- Create recalls and waitlist notifications
- Complete daily no-show documentation and communicate with families to reschedule
- Document and send patient messages to providers via Epic In Basket
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma/GED required
- Some college preferred
- Some knowledge of medical terminology, third party billing, and managed care requirements strongly preferred
- Some knowledge of electronic medical records
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word applications such as Outlook and other computer skills preferred
- High customer service and interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication/listening skills
- Problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to manage stressful situations appropriately
