About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and develop the Lead Engineer population through day-to-day direction, performance management, mentoring, and professional development
- Support resource planning and workforce development, identify skills gaps, and work with HR and senior leadership to address them
- Define and enforce technical standards for the Service Engineering function
- Ensure engineering work complies with company quality frameworks, regulatory requirements, marine classification society rules, and DP standards
- Oversee the full service lifecycle across commissioning, field service, upgrades, and retrofits
- Ensure solutions meet customer, contract, quality, and regulatory requirements across industrial and marine sectors
- Manage engineering budgets, risk management processes, design reviews, and quality and change control systems
- Act as senior customer-facing technical authority and translate customer requirements into service solutions
- Collaborate with Project Managers, commissioning teams, vessel operators, and third-party partners
- Deputise for senior leadership as required
- Provide specialist guidance on marine vessel PMS, DP control systems, shipboard automation, power engineering, electrical drive systems, LV/MV variable speed drives, and grid-connected systems
- Drive cost-reduction initiatives, efficiency programmes, accountability, and measurable value delivery
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Marine Engineering, Control Systems, or a closely related discipline
- Significant experience in an engineering people management or senior leadership role
- Demonstrated track record of developing teams of engineers
- Substantial experience in service engineering or field engineering leadership within power conversion, energy, maritime, or industrial sectors
- Solid expertise in power engineering, electrical drive systems, and grid-connected systems
- Working knowledge of drives, motors, transformers, switchboards, and related equipment across LV and MV applications
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands to strict timescales across a complex service portfolio
- Clear analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Preferred: experience with marine DP systems, including DP control system architecture, redundancy classification, thruster control, and position reference systems
- Preferred: familiarity with marine PMS and IAS and marine classification society requirements
- Preferred: relevant marine industry certifications such as IMCA DP-related training or NI DP Operator/Technician certification
- Preferred: experience commissioning, fault-finding, and supporting marine DP and automation systems across OSVs, AHTS vessels, drillships, and cable layers
