About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Deploy and maintain DATA4’s H&S policy, standards and annual program in France across Construction, Fit-Out and Operations activities.
- Manage and lead the France H&S team in coordination with the Group H&S Director.
- Define and monitor the deliverables and performance levels of external H&S resources.
- Serve as the primary H&S contact in France for stakeholders, clients, employee representatives and authorities.
- Report to the Group H&S Director on H&S performance, risks, events, priorities and corrective actions.
- Integrate H&S requirements into planning, design, procurement, contractor selection, execution, commissioning and handover to Operations.
- Conduct site visits and construction-site audits, monitor compliance and ensure corrective actions are closed out.
- Apply recognition and escalation processes, including stop-work authority in the event of an immediate or uncontrolled risk.
- Assess contractor H&S performance and lead project coordination meetings.
- Ensure the handover of H&S deliverables, residual risks, training requirements and operational constraints.
- Lead or support investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses and high-potential events.
- Contribute to emergency preparedness and coordinate drills.
- Manage risks associated with data center operations in collaboration with Operations and Facility Management teams.
- Monitor H&S performance through safety visits, audits, observations, metrics and action plans.
- Promote a proactive H&S culture among employees, contractors and partners.
- Monitor regulatory developments, assess site compliance and manage relationships with authorities and prevention organizations.
- Contribute to the integrated management system, particularly ISO 45001 requirements and certification audits.
- Consolidate H&S reporting and metrics, manage the document repository and coordinate mandatory training.
- Lead the management of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in the annual H&S budget process and monitor OPEX and CAPEX expenditure.
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 8–10 years of progressive H&S experience in complex technical or industrial environments in France, with significant exposure to construction projects and/or the operation of live sites.
- Proven experience coordinating H&S across multiple sites in France; managing contractor safety, simultaneous operations, commissioning, handover to Operations and high-risk activities in occupied or critical facilities.
- Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, occupational health and safety, risk management or a related technical field.
- H&S experience suited to the French regulatory environment.
- Strong knowledge of the French Labour Code and applicable health and safety requirements for construction sites, industrial facilities and operational workplaces.
- Practical knowledge of French requirements relating to contractor management and construction coordination, including prevention plans, SPS coordination, risk assessments, work permits, commissioning, energization, simultaneous operations and project handover to Operations.
- Practical knowledge of risk-control measures in critical facilities, including electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), maintenance, work at height, lifting operations, confined spaces, fire safety and emergency response.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct H&S inspections and audits, investigate events and apply root cause analysis and continuous improvement methods.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 and integrated management systems.
- Ability to coordinate H&S across multiple sites, manage external consultants and influence general contractors, subcontractors, facility management providers and internal stakeholders.
- Native-level French and a very strong level of professional English required.
